Lucy joined the Cai Lab in September 2025 where she will programme manage the ARIA project and provide project management support to Patrick's portfolio of research. Lucy obtained her PhD in 2014 from the University of Manchester, her research explored the application of laccase enzymes and their chemical mediator systems to improve the saccharification of biomass. Lucy continued her research during her career as a PDRA, utilising enzymatic processes to breakdown or modify biomass for a range of industrially supported applications. Lucy left the laboratory in 2019 to co-manage and support a Laboratory Sciences Degree Apprenticeship programme . Here, she worked closely with a large and diverse portfolio of scientific industrial organisations to support the next generation of scientists through their vocational scientist training and degree programmes.
